Happy new year everyone! We’re excited to be getting back to regular, less sluggish life and being productive again. A few people have been asking on the progress of the edit for ‘STILL LIFE’, so here we go.
We currently have a pretty solid third cut with a runtime of 2 hours and 10 minutes. Finding a smoother structure out of an overwhelming amount of footage has taken some time (there was a cut that ran 40 minutes longer at one point). Killing your darlings is never easy, but the film is finally shaping up better for it. This stage of post-production has been all about balance: preserving the quieter moments that give the film its texture, while ensuring the narrative momentum remains strong. Each pass through the edit has brought greater clarity, and we’re now at a point where the film feels cohesive in both tone and rhythm.
Every shot has now been colour corrected, saving the grade til later in the process. We’re also thrilled to have some new music trickling in from the exceptional Sebastian Moody, who is currently composing the film’s score. His work is always a great addition to each film and we’re excited to continue developing this relationship between image and music on each project.
Our next major focus is sound. Over the coming months, we’ll be diving into foley recording and sound design — an often invisible but crucial part of shaping the film’s atmosphere. This stage is where the world of ‘STILL LIFE’ really starts to breathe, and we’re looking forward to bringing greater depth and detail to the soundtrack.
For those unfamiliar with the premise of the film: Chuck is cursed to live out his days like a piece of furniture — unaging, watching the highs and lows of countless houseguests pass before him. His best friend Les, his sole caregiver, navigates decades alongside him while their home faces the looming threat of demolition from a giant tech company. An absurd, poignant tragi-comedy spanning 30 years.
As always, thank you to everyone who’s been following the journey so far – June is looking like a very realistic release date. We’ll continue to share updates as the film moves closer to completion.
