We’ve had a great few weeks here at Quandary HQ, most notably with the completion of our fantastic test shoot. This gave us a chance to try out different lenses to find the right look for each era of the film, try aspect ratios and lighting setups ahead of production, but it also gave us a chance to see how the aging make-up will appear on screen in 4k. As several of our actors appear throughout the film, set across three decades, we are looking to age down and age up. And it turned out really really well. Only cast and crew have been able to see the finished test shoot but the resounding feedback has been ‘stunning’, ‘touching’, ‘poignant’ and ‘nostalgic’, all words we hope carry over for the finished film as that is our intention.
So what’s next? We have a few more rehearsals, costume fittings and then it’s the nitty gritty of organising catering, travel, extras, costume continuity documents and all the boring paperwork that needs to be completed before any shoot. Added to that we have a couple more meetings to discuss lighting plans with the camera team and then I spend a few days writing notes all over my final draft of the script (more fun than it sounds). With just 28 days left to go we’re all super excited, energised by the test shoot, and all ready to go all in for our next feature film. We cannot wait!
We’re still looking for a few more extras for a couple of key scenes, so drop us a message if you’d like to have a brief cameo end of June/early July!
For those unfamiliar with the synopsis to our latest feature ‘STILL LIFE’, please see below:
Chuck is cursed to live out his days like a piece of furniture on one spot, unageing, watching the episodic highs and lows of countless houseguests’ lives pass before him. Presented in two linear narratives, jumping back and forth between the day Chuck became frozen in time and the following decades, his best friend Les his sole caregiver, constantly questioning will he be released? More importantly, will their home survive when it comes under threat of demolition by a giant tech company?
An absurd, poignant, picaresque comedy spanning 30 years.
