‘MUTE’ – The First Cut

We’ve been quiet about the progress of our latest feature film ‘MUTE’, since we wrapped at the end of July, but in that time we’ve been hard at work, and the first rough cut is now complete. A quick round of colour correction, and addition of subtitles for text-based communication between characters (it’s a world where people aren’t legally allowed to communicate verbally anymore remember) has been added. So what now?
Well between now and Christmas I have the unenviable task of adding the location sound to every scene (again, it’s a world where people aren’t legally allowed to communicate verbally). This isn’t a task I’m looking forward to. But all is going well with the edit so far. Somehow we managed to shoot a 1hr 45min film from a 70 page script (so in your face page-to-minute prediction figures!). Once the audio has been added, the first few months of next year will be dedicated to tweaking colour correction and audio, adding sound foley, using After Effects for on-screen conversations, getting the wunderkind Sebastian Moody to compose some more ‘out-there’ sounds, and adjust the overall pacing of the film.
But as it stands, I’m very pleased with the film. It’s a huge step forward for us all, and we cannot wait to show you it June next year! For those who missed the test footage we released last month, please find it below:
