ArtDepartMENTAL

Art direction is an often overlooked aspect of filmmaking. “The goal of Art DepartMENTAL is to create inspiring content, provide ample resources, and connect film and television creatives in a positive, honest, and celebratory environment; building an art department community around the idea that art direction matters.”
Rose Lagace (Creator, Writer, Editor-in-Chief) is a production designer, art department coordinator, filmmaker, writer, and social media consultant based in Toronto, Canada. At the age of fourteen, Rose decided she would spend the rest of her life pursuing filmmaking. Later she graduated from Niagara College of Applied Arts & Technology having studied art history, film theory and philosophy.
The Art DepartMENTAL site serves as an ‘all-you-need-to-know’ sharing of information, around film’s overlooked departments. What is Production Design? What is the difference between Production Design and Art Direction? The history of Production Design and Art Direction? – all covered.
Also, Rose is now opening up submissions for ‘Set of the Month’ – “Through Art DepartMENTAL I’ve been able to highlight the work of some extraordinary production designers, but having said that, almost every single one of them have been mid-level or fully established production designers. I’m looking to change that. I want to help showcase the work of tomorrow’s great production designers too.” Something we’re extremely fond of is the promotion of other artist’s work. It’s good to see others doing the same.
